NEW OLYMPICS TRAINING POOL LIT BY SILL

Share

Sill has just provided the lighting for the new £13.5m Southend Swimming and Diving Centre, which will be the new training base for the British Olympic diving team prior to the London 2012 games.

Now named by British Diving as the best diving facility and dry land gym in Great Britain, the facility at Garon Park, which was built by ISG, features a variety of diving platforms, giving the centre a very high profile across Europe.

Working with architects, Archial and consulting engineers, Silcock Dawson & Partners, Sill achieved the lighting brief through the use of an uplight and downlight combination for Garon  Park.

Alexei Evangulov, National Performance Director for British Diving, commented, “We are enormously pleased with the lighting. It is particularly important for divers when somersaulting to have the correct lighting as it enhances their awareness.”

Some 82 of their 458 series Plane Projectors with 250w and 400w Osram HCI-TM Powerball lamps have been installed in the diving and main pool halls for high levels of illuminance without glare.

Featuring the UK’s first pre-cast dive tower structure, the 25 metre, eight-lane swimming pool and dive centre at Southend Swimming and Diving Centre, Garon Park, will be home to world-class diving facilities. The dive pool has 3m, 5m, 7.5m and 10m diving platforms and features a moveable floor to enable swimming lessons and exercise classes to take place.

Each of the uplight and downlight assemblies have custom designed mounting bracket arms, demonstrating the bespoke service that Sill offers. All HID fittings and brackets are coated in a white RAL 9010 powder finish over a chlorine resistant base coat.

Sill’s IP rated 769 series 35w downlights were used in the leisure pool along with twin 80w lamp Pracht Apollo fluorescent luminaires with integral darklight ring louvre to achieve both efficiency and glare control.

Both the 458 and 769 projectors have Si12 corrosion resistant die-cast aluminium housings with large heat dissipating cooling fins. The reflectors are made of 99.98% pure aluminium, chemically polished and anodised with a UV filtering toughened safety glass sealed by a silicone gasket.

Sill is renowned for its flexible and professional response to the wishes and needs of lighting designers and architects. Sill understands that just like Garon Park, every project is unique and requires a perfectly tailored light solution to really bring it to life.   Web www.sill-uk.com
