The sky’s the limit as Sunsquare launches world-first space-saving access skylight

Aero Dual combines unique space-saving solution with unrivalled safety credentials

Sunsquare has launched a world-first access skylight that offers architects a space-saving alternative to large sliding models – making it perfect for winder and spiral staircases and for projects where external space is at a premium.

The British manufacturer’s new Aero Dual flat-roof skylight not only maximises roof space, but it features UV-neutral, laminated glass for best-in-class quality and safety – and delivers unparalleled overall thermal performance.

The Aero Dual has been specifically designed for applications where a large opening to the roof is needed but roof space is limited. Instead of a conventional sliding mechanism, it’s the only flat-roof skylight on the market to feature two panels that open independently to 90 degrees, allowing for a maximum opening area, with a minimal footprint.

Mark Lambert, Sales Director at Sunsquare, said: “We designed the Aero Dual because our customers wanted all the benefits of an access rooflight, without losing valuable roof space. The two synchronised, hinged panes can be operated at the touch of a button and provide a unique, space-saving solution. Because it features laminated glass, it’s also the safest flat-roof skylight on the market, backed by a 25-year unit seal warranty. This means specifiers, installers and end-users alike can benefit from complete peace of mind, with a skylight that’s not only designed with quality and safety in mind, but one that’s built to last.

“In fact, Sunsquare products are the only flat-roof skylights to hold the BSI (British Standards Institution) Kitemark – and as part of our market-leading Aero range, the new Aero Dual is no exception. This means its components have been independently tested to ensure ultimate durability and performance levels, even in the most extreme weather conditions. As part of the Sunsquare portfolio, the Aero Dual skylight can also be made to any specification and size up to 4.6 sqm, creating a totally bespoke solution for each customer.”

For architects looking to deliver optimum U-value performance, the Aero Dual boasts the most thermally efficient profile in the world of flat-roof skylights. Fully thermally broken, its frame incorporates three separate runs of polyamide insulating sections to provide an effective barrier between internal and external temperatures. This prevents heat loss in colder months and cold bridging in rooms that suffer from high humidity – helping make for a more comfortable indoor environment, reduced bills and a lower carbon footprint.

Like all Sunsquare skylights, the new Aero Dual is also glazed with soft-coat, low emissivity insulating glass, preventing heat loss by allowing interior heat to be reflected back into the room. This lets natural light in and helps to keep room temperatures comfortable, whilst the laminated inner pane blocks harmful UV rays. Various glass options such as solar control, and obscure glass are also available for a tailored finish.

The Aero Dual comes with an advanced electronic operating system. Developed entirely in-house, the control panel and wall-mounted switch make it effortless to use, whilst unobtrusive, electronic motors ensure optimum safety at all times. Weather, temperature or humidity sensors can also be fitted where required. What’s more, from initial enquiry through to installation, the whole process is handled efficiently and expertly by the Sunsquare team.

Lambert added: “At Sunsquare, safety and quality come first, and the extensive development behind the new Aero Dual reflects this. We’re the only flat-roof skylight company in the world to offer BSI Kitemark-certified and fully thermally broken products – which is a high bar to set when you’re working with access skylights! We want architects to feel confident that by choosing Sunsquare, they are choosing the very best on the market. Our entire range is tested to destruction, so we can guarantee that when it comes to durability, air permeability, weather tightness and wind resistance, every skylight we make is completely unrivalled.”

From consultation through to installation, Sunsquare aims to keep the whole specification process as easy as possible. All system elements are delivered in one for quick and easy fitting, including simple-to-follow instructions, as well as a precisely measured, fully insulated upstand that fits around the aperture.
