Wienerberger, one of the UK’s leading providers of wall, roof and landscaping solutions, has scooped a hat-trick of gongs at the prestigious 2013 Brick Development Awards.

The Gee Street project in London won the highly prized ‘Best Commercial Building’ and ‘Innovative Use of Brick and Clay Products’ categories, using Wienerberger’sTerre Doree cream coloured wirecut bricks.

The architect was Alfred Munkenbeck & Partners and the specialist brickwork contractor was Precision Brickwork.

Industry leaders at the annual event, held at the Marriott Grosvenor Square hotel in London, also saw Wienerberger win with the ‘Architect’s Choice’ award for its involvement in The Carmelite Monastery in Liverpool.

Built using Con Mosso machine made stock bricks, judges were impressed with the detailing of the brick and its use both internally and externally to bring out its full potential.

The architect was Austin-Smith:Lord and the specialist brickwork contractor was Nobles Construction.

Wienerberger bricks were also used in the ‘Specialist Contractor of The Year’ category, which winners Reussir submitted three projects, one of which used Staffordshire Smooth Bluev.

The judges commented:

“The detailing is effective and attractive, with a great deal of attention to the finished surfaces. The way in which the extruded bricks are turned on their side to create controllable ventilation into the mixed housing and office space was a first…. and the way in which the light falls when standing inside is beautiful and delightful.”

Richard Brown, Category Marketing Manager – Wall, said:

“It is fantastic that we have won plaudits in highly competitive categories at this year’s BDA awards, which is testament to the hard work of our sales team. To be involved in high profile projects that are recognised by industry peers as some of the best brick buildings in the UK is a real honour, whilst highlighting the structural and aesthetic qualities of brick as a construction material.”
