Work on the new offices for Admiral Insurance Group designed by Holder Mathias Architects has started on site in Newport, South Wales.
The 7,500 sq m offices are being developed by Scarborough Development Group for Admiral and form part of a major mixed-use regeneration scheme based around the former Cambrian Centre, adjacent to Newport’s Railway Station.
The offices will front not only onto Queensway, but also onto a new public plaza surrounded by new retail and leisure units with a stepped route linking to the town centre.
The offices are designed to accommodate 1,200 people on flexible, shift work patterns, and will provide 230 car parking spaces.
Peter Mathias, chairman of Holder Mathias, said: “The start on the offices sets the scene for the formation of a new business and leisure quarter in the heart of the city centre.”
Mark Jackson, managing director of Scarborough Development Group, said “The redevelopment will provide a new gateway to the city centre and enhance the leisure offer within the city along with the 1,200 new jobs created by the Admiral offices.”
The scheme is due for completion in July 2014.
