MK Electric greets UK’s mobility boom with new USB charging module

Share

MK Electric, the UK’s leading manufacturer of wiring devices and accessories, is expanding the largest range of wiring devices in the UK with the launch of a new USB charging module.

A recent study by research house, Gartner, suggested that by the end of 2013, the number of active smartphones around the world is expected to total 1.2 billion. Given USB is becoming the principal method of charging these devices, MK’s new USB charging module has been designed to meet this rising consumer demand. In addition, with the majority of handset manufacturers working with the European Commission towards a common charger based on Micro-USB, demand is set to increase further still.

MK4The product – which is part of MK’s comprehensive range of TV, data, power and audio Euro modules – is capable of charging touchscreen tablets, mobile phones, satellite navigation devices, cameras, e-Readers and games controllers as well as smartphones and PDAs, making it ideal for use in airports, hotels, student accommodation, offices, retail outlets and cafes.

Jason Ng, marketing communications specialist for MK Electric, said: “We are proud to be one of the first companies delivering USB charging modules to the UK market. The product is created to the highest standard and is an exciting new addition to our market-leading wiring devices and accessories offering.”

The USB charging module features two 5V outlets enabling two devices to be charged simultaneously without a drop in power. For rapid charging of touchscreen tablets, users can operate one outlet port at 2Amps. Alternatively users can charge two devices, using both outlet ports up to a combined charge of 2Amps.

MK2Designed with versatility in mind, the module can be used in conjunction with any MK 50mm x 50mm Euro module front-plate, providing access to MK Electric’s complete portfolio, from Logic Plus to the full decorative range. It is available in either black or white to match the existing range of MK modules, and can also be installed using a standard 35mm backbox, making it an ideal retrofit product.

With energy efficiency an increasingly important concern for any organisation, the new USB charging module has zero standby power consumption as it automatically disconnects when the plug is removed, saving power.
Finally the product is manufactured to ISO 9002 certification with each product undergoing 100 per cent electrical and visual testing to ensure reliability and safety. It also comes with a two-year guarantee and is available in the UK from May 2013.
