AWW Project ‘Hayesfield Girls’ School’ shortlisted for the 2013 RICS Community Benefit Award

Share

AWW Architects, Bristol, has been shortlisted in the 2013 RICS South West & Wales Community Benefit Awards category with Hayesfield Girls’ School.
Hayesfield is an all-girl secondary school with a co-educational sixth form, located in the Oldfield Park area of Bath. Looking to replace wholly inadequate and deteriorating sports and performing arts facilities the school commissioned an architectural competition for the provision of new facilities including a 4 court sports hall, gymnasium, multi gym, performing arts facilities a new refectory and auditorium.
AWW worked closely with the school to create these new facilities and introduce a new reception ‘heart’ to enhance its role as both a high achieving Academy School and an integral part of the local community. The school grounds fall some 12m across the site and the design took advantage of this site topography by partially burying larger elements of the scheme in the hillside, resulting in a scheme that cascades across the site, allowing wide ranging views of the city.
The Regional award ceremony will take place at Rookery Manor, Somerset on 10th May.
