Flooring at a newly refurbished shopping centre in Aberdeen is being kept in first-class condition after top of the range products from Schlüter-Systems, the number one supplier of essential tiling protection, were installed there.

A major contributor to the local economy and employer in the city, Bon Accord & St Nicholas shopping centre, owned jointly by Land Securities and British Land, recently underwent a £8m upgrade which included its tiled floors.

Specifying hundreds of movement joints, edging and transition profiles, and decorative tile trims products from Schlüter-Systems, the architects ensured that visitors will enjoy their shopping experience without worrying that the tiling beneath their feet will disappoint.

Movement joints from the Schlüter®-DILEX range have provided the perfect solution for secure edge protection and maintenance free solutions for surfaces exposed to continuous vehicular traffic such as the shopping centre. Finishing threshold strips from the Schlüter®-SCHIENE range, which finish tiled surfaces and protect the outer edges of ceramic and natural stone floor coverings from mechanical impact, were also installed.

Schlüter-Systems also supplied a range of tile trim profiles which are designed to provide a decorative finish and protect exposed tile edges for wall corners, skirtings, stair nosings and tiled edges. The products in the Schlüter®-RONDEC, and Schlüter®-QUADEC, Schlüter®-TREP and Schlüter®-ECK ranges have created not just a decorative finish at the Bon Accord shopping centre, but also a highly durable one, leaving the perfect installation.

Carl Stokes, Divisional Manager at Schlüter-Systems, said: “There are few greater tests for our products than at a busy shopping centre due to the extremely high level of mechanical stresses caused by the millions of pairs of feet, bags and trolleys that pass through every year. The fact that a range of Schlüter-Systems products can be found at shopping centres, sporting arenas, hotels and airports not just across the UK but around the world speaks volumes for their performance and just proves what an ideal solution they provide to common load bearing problems.”

All installed by Schlüter customer Ora Ceramics, based in Dalkeith, the products used in this project are highly regarded among many contractors thanks to their quality, easy installation and reliability once installed.

Schlüter-RONDEC, Schlüter-ECK-K and Schlüter-QUADEC all offer a range of profiles that offer excellent protection in a variety of stylish finishes for skirting, tile edges, external corners and tiled walls and other coverings, whilst Schlüter®-SCHIENE, the original finishing threshold strip, offers the perfect protection. It finishes tiled surfaces and protects the outer edges of ceramic and natural stone floor coverings from mechanical impact.

Movement joints from the Schlüter®-DILEX range offer secure edge protection and maintenance free solutions for surfaces exposed to continuous pedestrian and vehicular traffic, making them particularly important within this large scale shopping centre which will be used heavily on a day-to-day basis. All profiles are installed at the same time as the tile covering and a wide variety in various material combinations are available, depending on the mechanical or chemical stresses expected on the covering.

With over 8,000 products in its range, Schlüter-Systems has an essential role to play in every professional tiling project. To find out how it can help you to create more beautiful and longer-lasting installations, please telephone 01530 813396 or visit the website at www.schluter.co.uk.
