Cedral weatherboard helps create New England style development

Share

Marley Eternit fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard has helped to create a New England style development at Valley Park in Rye, Kent.

Entire properties as well as a large number of feature walls on the development have been clad in Cedral Weatherboard.

Aroncorp, the client for this development, was initially drawn to Cedral Weatherboard because it provided a visually authentic, low maintenance method of creating the popular New England style of architecture.

The team at Aroncorp worked closely with main contractor Jenner (Contractors) Ltd during the material selection process.

Jenner had used Cedral Weatherboard on other developments and drew influences from these when presenting suitable materials for Valley Park in Rye.

Cedral Weatherboard has a textured surface that echoes the aesthetic characteristics of timber. However, being made from fibre cement means that it provides a long term low maintenance solution – avoiding the need for homeowners to continually having to maintain their property.

Each property on the development is clad in a subtly varied shade of Cedral Weatherboard, using a combination of White, Grey Green and Blue Grey, from a palette of 23 colours and four woodstain finishes.

Cedral Weatherboard has an installed life expectancy of at least 50 years and will not warp or shrink. It is quick and easy to fit, and can be nailed or screwed just like timber. In addition, Cedral Weatherboard has fire classifications A2-s1, d0 to EN 13501-1.

The properties at Valley Park in Rye were constructed using a Kingspan Potton timber frame construction with factory fitted insulation. These were covered with a sheathing board and breathable sarking membrane.

The Cedral Weatherboard was then fixed to timber battens on an external blockwork outer skin to create a rear ventilated cavity. The walls achieve a U-value of 0.20 w/m²K.

Cedral Weatherboard contributed to the sustainability of the development because it can achieve an A+ rating in the BRE (Building Research Establishment) Green Guide to Specification based on generic rating: Cedral Weatherboard – autoclaved fibre cement (calcium silicate) cladding – (Element Ref: 806220701, 806220675, 806220676).
