CIAT 2016 Awards shortlist announced

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) is delighted to announce the shortlisted entrants for its 2016 Awards which celebrate excellence in Architectural Technology. The shortlisted entries are selected by a judging panel made up of experts in the discipline and winners will be announced on 12 November at the Institute’s President’s Ball, taking place at The Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton.

Shortlisted entries for The Award for Excellence in Architectural Technology are:

  •   Arc Design for Streamline House
  •   Glancy Nicholls Architects for Meadow View
  •   GM Design Associates Ltd for Castle Hill Events Space
  •   KEY Architectural Design Ltd for Bradbury House
  •   Lee Evans Partnership LLP for The Pennock Centre
  •   Lee Evans Partnership LLP for Samphire Hoe Education Centre

Shortlisted entries for The Alan King Award are:

  •   Arc Design for Streamline House
  •   Chetham Architecture Design for Hill House
  •   GROW Design Studio for Goff’s Oak
  •   GROW Design Studio for Millbrook Park
  •   PJC Architecture Ltd for Golf Academy & Custom Fit Centre, Close House Golf Club
  •   SPG Design Limited for Wychall Primary School Nursery Building

Kevin Crawford MCIAT, Vice-President Technical and Chair of the Judging Panel said “I am extremely impressed and enthused by the quality of entries received. The projects clearly demonstrate the diversity and versatility of how Architectural Technology, as the technology of architecture, is an integral component within the built environment and is applicable to all projects regardless of their size, scope or specification.” …more follows

CIAT Student Awards recognise outstanding design and research achievement in Architectural Technology by students. There are two Award categories that students can enter, Project and Report.

Shortlisted entries for The Student Award for Excellence in Architectural Technology (Project) are:

  •   Wayne Croasdell, University of Central Lancashire for Ullswater Yacht Club Replacement Clubhouse
  •   Nathan Saulle, Sheffield Hallam University for Woodland Works Discovery Centre – A Timber Showcase
  •   Tom Welch ACIAT, Southampton Solent University for Glastonbury Tor Heritage Education CentreShortlisted entries

for The Student Award for Excellence in Architectural Technology (Report) are:

  • Naomi Clare ACIAT, Sheffield Hallam University for Woodland Works – Greater Sustainability Through Intelligent Design
  • Sean Knight ACIAT, Coventry University for Integrating New Structures Within Historic Buildings
  • Nathan Saulle, Sheffield Hallam University for Design Integration, Product Information and Performance Within a Mixed-Use Timber Building

Paul Laycock MCIAT, Vice-President Education and Chair of the Judging Panel said “The Student Awards are a complete delight to judge; it’s a great insight into the work of our students from across our Accredited universities. You see the work of Architectural Technologists of the future which is highly innovative, thought provoking and creative.”
