FIREFLY® FB180 BATTS RAISE THEIR GAME ON COMPUTER FLOOR SAFETY
Share
Already widely specified for flooring applications and creating ‘protected zones’ in roof-spaces, FIREFLY® FB 180 ablative batts are now also being used to provide fire compartmentation beneath raised access floors.
Raised access floors are commonly used to accommodate power, data and other building services, creating concealed voids beneath the finished floor. Without appropriate fire protection, these hidden cavities can allow fire and smoke to spread unseen beyond the point of origin. The FIREFLY® FB180 Raised Access Floor System has been developed to help address this risk by forming a protected cavity beneath the floor and maintaining the compartment line.
Independently tested and assessed in accordance with BS EN 1366-4 and classified to EN 13501-2, the system can achieve fire resistance performance of up to four hours integrity and up to two hours insulation, depending on the floor build-up. Tested and assessed configurations include use with steel encapsulated raised access floor panels and timber-based floor panels, protecting service voids up to 600mm in depth while allowing essential services to pass through in a controlled manner.
Chris Boam, Technical Manager at FIREFLY® commented: “Raised access floors are commonly used in areas where maintaining compartmentation can be challenging, such as beneath timber or composite floors, around floor openings and door thresholds, and in service-intensive areas where large numbers of cables and containment systems pass below the finished floor. The FIREFLY® Raised Access Floor System is intended to maintain the compartment line beneath the floor in these situations, while still accommodating necessary service penetrations. This makes it particularly relevant for buildings such as offices, data centres, high-rise developments and transport infrastructure, where concealed floor voids form an important part of the overall fire strategy”.
The 1200 x 600mm sheets are 60 mm thick and feature the specially formulated ablative coating on both sizes. Formed from layered, non-combustible mineral fibre with a density of 180 kg/m3, the FIREFLY® Raised Access Floor System also delivers a sound reduction of 27dB. Full details on the Raised Access Floor System, along with the test certification and installation guidance, can be accessed by contacting the FIREFLY® support team or downloading the technical documents from the website.
