George Nicolson Decorators

Established in 1972, George Nicolson Decorators are an Award-winning second-generation family business who have built a reputation for high standards throughout the painting and decorating industry.

Now in 2026, the company has significantly grown over the last 54 years.  Over the years they have focused on the commercial market through the redecoration of public houses, hotels, restaurants as well as large (and small) private residential projects and offices. Over the last 25 years, George Nicolson Decorators also branched out into principal contracting within the leisure industry covering hotels, restaurants, public houses and main contracts within other sectors such as health, education etc.

George Nicolson Decorators work directly with clients, designers, surveyors and architects mainly throughout the central belt and east coast of Scotland to deliver the whole package in meeting our client’s standards, budgets and programmes. With our experience, together with an established and reliable chain of suppliers and sub-contractors, this area of the business has continued to expand and develop.

We strongly believe in training for growth throughout our workforce. We cover numerous aspects of Health & Safety such as SMSTS, SSSTS, Asbestos Awareness, IPAF, PASMA, First Aid/Mental Health First Aid, CDM, trade skills as well as on-site and off-site management. With our existing apprenticeship policy, which has been in place for many years, we continue to develop our own tradespeople for the future.

As a member of the Scottish Decorators’ Federation, we are kept up-to-date with the latest legislation. We are also members of Constructionline, and both SSIP and Cyber Essentials accredited.

We are proud to have received many awards over the years. These include, Finalist: Employer of the Year for First Aid Excellence 2025, Winner: SDF Hospitality Project of the Year Contract Manager 2024, Winner: SDF Private Domestic Project of the Year 2024, CITB Company Committed to Training Award 2023, SDF Historic Restoration Contracts Manager of the Year 2022 but to name only a few.
