Eco experts Terra Therma have revealed that their underfloor heating and renewable heating systems featured in both the winning Grand Design Best New House of the Year 2013 and the highly commended runner up.
Terra Therma was part of the highly skilled construction team that built the favourite and award-winning Long Farm in Reydon, Suffolk, which was designed by the owner of Long Farm, Architect Lucy Marston. It was chosen as the winner because ‘it is clearly of its time and inspiring as an example of 21st Century family sustainable living.’ Terra Therma also worked on the ‘Highly commended’ runner up, ‘Two Wimbledon Houses’ in London by Andrei Saltykov.
‘We are delighted to have been part of this award winning team,’ said Terra Therma Director Mark O’Brien. ‘We provided the underfloor heating, Daikin air source heat pump fed heating and a hot water system. We used modern press fit plumbing components to provide an efficient and clean heating system that will require little or no annual maintenance.’
Long Farm belongs to Architect Lucy Marston, who designed the house to take into account her family’s busy lifestyle. Terra Therma, an expert in designing, installing and maintaining heat pumps and underfloor heating systems, incorporated a system into Long Farm which can be operated remotely via a smart phone or tablet taking their lifestyles into account.
The Grand Design judges, including presenter Kevin McCloud, chose Long Farm, which cost £555,861 to build, from 150 entries. They liked the house’s ‘sustainable building features’ including its air source heat pump for heating and hot water provision.

Visitors to Grand Designs Live were able to see examples of Terra Therma’s underfloor heating on show inside the Eco-Tech House within the Technologyzone at the event.
