Multi-Link-Panel: Safer Roof Glazing for Modern and Heritage Buildings

Share

Combining natural daylight, non-fragile performance and practical installation, Twinfix’s Multi-Link-Panel system offers architects and specifiers a versatile solution for roof glazing projects.

With over 35 years of experience in the design, manufacture and installation of glazing systems and canopies, UK-based Twinfix works across a wide range of sectors, including education, rail, healthcare and commercial buildings.

At the heart of its roof glazing range is the Multi-Link-Panel Non-Fragile system, designed to provide a safer, lightweight alternative to traditional roof glazing materials.

Designed with Safety in Mind

The Multi-Link-Panel system incorporates impact-resistant polycarbonate glazing within an aluminium-framed modular panel design. Tested to ACR[M]001:2019 Class B non-fragility requirements, the system offers a practical solution for both new-build projects and the refurbishment of existing roof structures.

Unlike traditional glazing methods that require extensive assembly on site, Multi-Link-Panels are factory-assembled before delivery, helping to simplify installation and reduce the amount of work required at roof level.

The modular design also offers long-term maintenance advantages, with individual panels that can be replaced where necessary. Integrated access hatches can be incorporated to support future roof maintenance and cleaning requirements.

A Versatile Solution for Different Building Types

Available in a range of glazing options, the Multi-Link-Panel NF system can be specified to suit different architectural, performance and aesthetic requirements.

For projects where thermal performance is a priority, Twinfix also offers Multi-Link Thermal™, while its specialist Georgian wired polycarbonate provides an alternative to traditional wired glass in heritage-sensitive applications.

This flexibility makes the system particularly suited to railway stations, schools, public buildings and other environments where natural daylight, durability and safety are key considerations.

Preserving Heritage at Lancaster Station

A recent example of the system’s versatility is the restoration of the Grade II listed Lancaster Station.

As part of Network Rail’s £9.5 million refurbishment programme, Twinfix supplied approximately 975m² of Multi-Link-Panel Non-Fragile glazing, incorporating its Georgian wired polycarbonate.

Developed to replicate the appearance of traditional Georgian wired glass, the glazing helps retain the historic character of the station’s platform canopies while providing the benefits of a modern, non-fragile system.

The project demonstrates how carefully specified materials can preserve architectural heritage while meeting the practical requirements of contemporary buildings.
