New EGGER flooring panels speed up Donington Park refurb
EGGER UK’s new OSB HDX 30 mm load-bearing panels have been used by leading commercial interiors firm; Company Image Commercial Interiors, based in Leicester, in an extensive £100,000 refurbishment project to update office and showroom facilities at Donington Park race circuit.
Donington Park appointed Company Image to upgrade a 9,000 square foot unit for tenants BookaTrack.com Ltd, the UK and Europe’s leading track day organiser, located in Paddock Three at the entrance of the famous circuit.
Company Image specified and fitted EGGER OSB HDX boards to create a mezzanine floor area of approximately 500 square meters to house offices, washrooms and meeting rooms which overlook the race circuit.
Andy Dawson, project manager at Company Image, explains: “This was a fantastic project to work on. Donington Park, with its history and heritage, is a key site for the motorsport industry. The job was to refit an existing building for BookaTrack.com Ltd, as part of their preparations to launch an official Caterham dealership at the circuit this year.
“The brief was to create a modern, spacious, show room on the ground floor with offices and meeting rooms upstairs. We specified EGGER OSB HDX panels to create a mezzanine for the first floor because of the product’s strength and quick fitting method.
“Although the sheet sizes are larger, the new boards are actually lighter and easier to handle than traditional 38 mm chipboard panels. These advantages allowed the floor to be laid quickly and efficiently, saving time and costs for the client. From the boards arriving on site the floor was complete within three weeks.”
EGGER OSB HDX is a 30 mm heavy duty OSB panel. It’s suitable for use in humid atmospheres and ideal for load-bearing environments such as mezzanine flooring, racking, shelving, working platforms and decking, where P5 or P6 38 mm chipboard would normally be used.
Due to it only being 30 mm thick, it’s 20% lighter, despite it being wider than a typical chipboard panel (675 mm as opposed to the standard 600 mm), the wider board means that it is easier to manoeuvre and quicker to lay. EGGER OSB HDX board dimensions are 2400 x 675 x 30 mm TG2.
Dan Soulsby, EGGER’s category manager for building products, said: “We’re always pushing the boundaries with our products to offer customers innovation and excellent quality solutions for their projects.
“EGGER OSB HDX is a lighter, wider board that’s easy to handle and quick to fit. The boards have a tongue and groove profile on the two long edges and are fitted the same way as 38 mm chipboard. This gives our customers the opportunity to make significant savings on their projects.
“Another added benefit for installers is the low swelling properties of OSB HDX which ensure it’s less likely to pick up moisture that can lead to uneven floors.”
EGGER UK specialises in the design and manufacture of structural flooring boards for use in both residential and commercial build projects throughout the UK and Ireland.
