When guests enjoy a shower in the new ‘hub by Premier Inn’ hotels, it will be with a Duschplan shower surface from German bathroom specialist Kaldewei, made from precious 3.5mm steel enamel. A generous and comfortable shower in lieu of a bath is the perfect solution for this latest room concept which aims to provide a great hotel experience in compact spaces.
Owned by Whitbread, the UK’s largest hotel group with over 650 Premier Inn hotels across the country and other household name brands including Costa coffee shops and Beefeater Grill restaurants, ‘hub by Premier Inn’ – the newest concept to be added to the group’s portfolio was announced in July 2013. Designed as a new generation of compact, city centre hotels, the first hub by Premier Inn will open in St. Martin’s Lane, London in autumn 2014 and will appeal to customers who value price, location and design over space. Comfort and style are assured thanks to ingenious, contemporary room design and excellent electronic connectivity.
Every centimetre of the 11.4 sq.m hub room will be optimised thanks to clever design ideas such as an extendable desk, luggage storage under the bed, free wifi, a 40” inch smart screen TV and an en suite bathroom with shower complete with Duschplan shower surface from Kaldewei. Control is at the fingertips of the hotel guests who, by means of the UK‘s first budget-hotel dedicated app, can book, check-in and pre-select the room temperature and lighting. Guests can pre-order breakfast using the app and even choose which TV or radio channel they want playing in the room on arrival, and stream content from their phone or tablet direct to their TV.
Whitbread has secured five London sites (around 1,000 rooms) to open in the next three years and is targeting to have around 40 hub by Premier Inn hotels (6,000 rooms) opened or in the pipeline by 2018.
Created by the renowned studio of Phoenix Design (Stuttgart/Tokyo), Duschplan is a classic shower surface from Kaldewei with a comfortable depth of 6.5cm making it easy to install in every bathroom. Available in a wide range of square and rectangular sizes, a bespoke model was created for hub by Premier Inn in the special size of 150 x 75cm to perfectly suit the blueprint for the new shower layout. Following extensive feedback from customers as part of the development process for the hub bathroom, guests will also benefit from two shower heads, one positioned so the user can avoid getting their hair wet.
Comfort and quality are the trademarks of Premier Inn and sustainability is also crucial. All three are areas where Kaldewei ranks highly. Thanks to the eco-friendly processes used in manufacturing, the long product lifecycle and materials that are 100% natural and 100% recyclable, Kaldewei is the first German bathroom manufacturer to achieve the sustainable certification of ISO 14025.
Bathing Comfort at Premier Inn
Kaldewei is already an exclusive supplier to the award-winning Premier Inn. Well known as the UK’s best value hotel brand with over 650 hotels and more than 53,000 bedrooms across the UK and Ireland, Premier Inn bathrooms all feature a Saniform bath from Kaldewei. This distinctive one-person bath from the studio of Phoenix Design (Stuttgart/Tokyo) has become a timeless classic within the Kaldewei portfolio. The waste is positioned at the foot-end of the tub and the other end is ergonomically wide to ensure a comfortable soak. Made from unique 3.5mm steel enamel, Saniform is a wise choice for its reliable performance, durable material and timeless design. The glass-like surface is easy to clean and has an attractive lustre which stays looking good throughout the lifetime of the bath.
Kaldewei anti-slip finish, an important feature to ensure firm footing for hotel guests, is made from quartz-sand and burned-in to the surface of the enamel to create a permanently structured surface.
Property Supply Chain Manager for Whitbread Restaurants and Hotels, Mitesh Panikker comments, “We specify Kaldewei baths for all our Premier Inn bathrooms as they satisfy our stringent standards of quality and comfort. Any product we use needs to be sustainable, in terms of manufacturing, materials and also with a long lifecycle so we can avoid disruptions to our customers. ”
Mitesh goes on to say:
“We expect a lot from the companies we work with and Kaldewei ranks highly for performance and service on our list of preferred suppliers. It is for all these reasons that we are now also using their shower trays in our new hub by Premier Inn hotels.”
