Rainguard’s Cast Iron Solution for Listed Building

Share

Yeoman Rainguard, manufacturers of a wide range of quality rainwater systems, has supplied and installed a Cast Iron Rainwater System to “The Old Grammar School” in Coventry as part of the redevelopment and refurbishment scheme of Coventry Transport Museum.

The recently completed project ( funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund, saw 12 of the museum’s 14 galleries completely transformed along with the museum’s neighbouring Old Grammar School being sympathetically conserved and brought back into public use as an exhibition and event space for the museum.

The Old Grammar School is situated adjacent to the museum and dates back to the 12th century and is as such an English Heritage grade 1 listed building. Prior to this project it had not been in public use since the 1980s, and had suffered from neglect, fire and vandalism.

“With the grade 1 listed status of the Old Grammar School it was imperative we sourced the right rainwater systems to tick all the required boxes. Yeoman Rainguard’s Cast Iron rainwater systems proved to be the perfect solution.” Explained Architect Julian Marsh, MA Dip Arch. RIBA Partner Marsh Grochowski LLP

Yeoman Rainguard’s Cast Iron Gutters, 150 x 100mm deep flow half round gutters in an MOG profile along with 75mm and 100mm dia round Cast Iron Downpipes were supplied by Yeoman Rainguard and installed by Karl Austerfield Roofing, an approved Rainguard fitter.

The Cast Iron range from Yeoman Rainguard has proved over the years to be an acceptable product for listed properties helping to retain the original traditional design of a building such as the Old Grammar School.

Once in place the strong and durable Cast Iron Rainwater System, if maintained correctly, will give years of service with the additional benefit of being 100% recyclable, adding to the Green credentials of the building it’s fitted to.
