Residential, North Wales
A developer in North Wales has been so impressed with the amount of energy that air source heat pumps have saved his properties over the past few years that he has had one installed in his very own home.
John Harvey, managing director at Harvey Homes, has had a Stiebel Eltron WPL23E installed in his newly built four- bedroom property.
The WPL23E will provide John’s home with all its heating and domestic hot water, while making significant CO2 and cost savings.
John said: “I first started using ground and air source heat pumps in my developments five years ago in order to meet the requirements of the Government’s Code For Sustainable Homes. Prior to that, they hadn’t been something I had any experience of.
“However, the more I learned about them, the more benefits I discovered, so it was a no-brainer when it came to my own home.
“So far, I have been extremely happy with it. It makes virtually no noise which I was pleasantly surprised by and it is extremely discreet so it is easily disguised if I don’t want to see it outside my house.
“Not only that, but once it has been set up, it needs no adjustments. There is an external thermostat that will raise the temperature in the house as the external temperature drops. Knowing that it will also make a considerable difference to the amount I have previously been paying in gas bills is also a plus.”
The robust casing of the WPL23E and the special hood for external installation enables the unit to perform equally well in the garden or the yard. Furthermore, even at temperatures as low as -20 °C, the WPL23E can still yield sufficient thermal energy from the outside air as an electric booster heater makes sure that there is enough heating if required.
Gywn Roberts from Ecosystems Wales Ltd installed the product. He said: “Having more or less tried and tested every different type and make of air source heat pump on the market, I can safely say that the WPL33 is one of the best, if not the best, out there.
“The two main advantages of the unit which I always tell my customers about are that it is the quietest and most efficient air source heat pump on the market. It also has a lengthy warrantee which offers customers additional peace of mind.
“From my point of view, it is extremely quick and easy to install. Additionally, as it is so robust and reliable, even at very low temperatures, it very rarely needs maintenance or repairs, which greatly reduces the number of call outs I have to make once the unit has been initially installed.”
Mark McManus, managing director of Stiebel Eltron UK, said: “We are delighted that the WPL23E continues to prove such a hit with both our end-users and the companies that install them. One of the main advantages of this unit is its versatility, as it can be installed externally or internally and works just as efficiently in older properties as it does new-builds.
“The extremely quiet operation added to its ergonomic design also means that it is far less intrusive than other air source heat pumps on the market, which is an added bonus for many of our customers.
“Perhaps most importantly, is the durability and smooth operation of the unit – in fact the lower the required flow temperature, the higher the heat pump efficiency. Accordingly, the system is particularly recommended for low temperature or under floor heating systems.”
