Sandtoft maintains highest BES 6001 rating

Sandtoft, a Wienerberger brand, the market leader in clay roof tiles, has maintained its ‘Excellent’ BES 6001 rating for many of its products. The BRE standard BES 6001 provides a framework for assessing the responsible sourcing of construction products. To meet the Standard, organisations must satisfy a number of requirements relating to organisational management, the supply chain, environmental issues and corporate social responsibility.
The rating will help customers using these products to reach their Code for Sustainable Homes sustainability targets
Last year, Sandtoft was the first UK roof tile manufacturer to achieve an ‘Excellent’ BES 6001 rating and over the past year, Sandtoft has worked with over 100 customers to help them reach their eco target
Sandtoft’s Heckmondwike factory has continued to achieve consistently high scores across each category, in particular for environmental and social requirements.
The plant is carbon neutral, using 100 per cent green electricity and producing almost no landfill waste
In addition, both the BritLock and BritSlate incorporate 80 per cent recycled slate waste, which is sourced from within the UK
This is in stark contrast to the majority of natural quarried slates in the UK used for roofing, which are imported from across the world and have a high carbon footprint.
Richard Bishop, Sandtoft’s Category Marketing Manager, commented:
This BES 6001 Accreditation is very important to us as it offers customers a real reassurance that products have been assessed and accepted by the UK’s leading, independent sustainability authority.
These ratings reinforce our commitment to producing sustainable materials and will help our customers to meet their own sustainability targets in relation to the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM.
