Training the Next Generation on Harlequin Floors

Built on years of dedication and excellence, JacBallet Professional Ballet and Dance Academy has become one of Spain’s leading centres for professional ballet training. Founded in Madrid in 2017 by former international soloist José Antonio Checa, the academy combines technical rigour, artistic discipline and an international faculty to prepare dancers for professional careers worldwide.

Creating the right environment for this level of training requires more than simply providing studio space. For dancers spending hours in classes, rehearsals and performance preparation each week, the floor forms an essential part of the working environment and must respond to the physical demands of professional-level dance.

At JacBallet, the studios feature a Harlequin Liberty sprung floor with a Harlequin Cascade vinyl performance surface, creating a complete flooring system designed specifically for dance. Harlequin Liberty provides consistent shock absorption and energy return across the floor, helping to reduce the impact of repeated movement and support dancers throughout intensive training. Above it, Harlequin Cascade provides a durable performance surface with controlled traction, giving dancers the confidence required for everything from precise classical technique to contemporary movement.

The flooring specification supports JacBallet’s varied programme, which includes classical, contemporary and neoclassical dance. Performance is also central to the academy’s philosophy, with students participating in around 30 productions each season and gaining valuable experience alongside their daily technical training.

This approach has helped prepare students for the next stage of their careers. JacBallet graduates have progressed to internationally recognised institutions including the Royal Ballet School, the Vaganova Academy and the English National Ballet School, while others have secured contracts with leading ballet companies across Europe.
