Using Oversized Doors to Create the Illusion of Spaciousness
Share
The function of an interior door is to divide space, provide privacy and to buffer noise, but interior doors can also enhance the aesthetics of an interior and be a design feature in themselves. Oversized, ceiling height doors will be bespoke and so cost more, but the effect is one of making any space seem grander by accentuating the building height. Wider doors can also make an equally bold statement.
Moving Away From Standard
Standard UK door sizes typically are either 1981mm or 2040mm in height and a standard ceiling height is generally around 2400mm and a good ceiling is around 2600mm. The decision to move away from standard, can open up some interesting options. Choosing an ECLISSE bespoke pocket door or ECLISSE bespoke concealed framed hinged door can add that extra design dimension to an interior.
Increased Passage Height
Passage heights of up to 2900mm can be achieved with the ECLISSE Classic Single and Double Pocket Doors. The Classic range of pocket door products from ECLISSE require finishing off with decorative architrave but an alternative option is also available. The ECLISSE Syntesis Flush Single and Double Pocket Doors have an architrave-free finish, and are available up to a passage height of 3000mm and can be easily integrated into the ceiling to give the door a floor to ceiling passage height.
ECLISSE Syntesis Flush Single and Double concealed frame hinged doors can be specified up to a height of 3000mm to give an interior a perception of a taller, more expansive space. The single version also has the added option of no top rail allowing the door panel to finish at ceiling level. Four concealed hinges, that are adjustable in three axis to result in a perfectly flush door, are specified for doors over 50Kg and/or door heights of over 2300m. Heights of up to 3000mm are possible with the Syntesis Flush range due to the innovative edge profile and the reinforced frame construction.
Increased Passage Widths
Whilst higher height doors can create an impact so can wider doors and wider passage widths. Passage widths can reach up to 2000mm wide for an ECLISSE Classic Single Pocket Door whilst a Classic Double Telescopic Pocket Door System, which incorporates four door panels with two door panels sliding back into a pocket on the left, and two door panels sliding back into a pocket on the right, can result in an expansive passageway opening of up to 4700mm wide. Passage widths for the Syntesis Flush architrave free range can reach 1300mm for a single pocket door system and 2600mm for a double.
Both the ECLISSE Classic and Syntesis range of pocket door products will work with a timber door 35mm or 44mm thick. Alternatively, glass door options in a variety of styles and designs are also available from ECLISSE. The ECLISSE concealed frame hinged door systems are suitable with 44mm door panels.
