ALPRO AT FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW

Share

Aluminium fabricator Veranti are using transom closers from Alpro on new metal-clad modular buildings created for the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) in England.

The aluminium and glass structures were built for steelwork designer and manufacturer Conder Allslade and are located within the FIA site. The event is held biannually at the 770-acre TAG Farnborough Airport in Hampshire.

Veranti, also based in Hampshire, specialise in the manufacture of high-performance building envelopes including aluminium and composite curtain walling and structural glazing. They have opted to use Alpro’s overhead transom closers as a means of hydraulically controlling the opening and closing of the aluminium doors on the Airshow’s new buildings.

The Alpro closers can have light, medium or heavy spring strengths to suit type of usage with a 90-degree hold open option, flexibility that matches the range of activities at Farnborough. Transom closers are well suited for this kind of use since their adjustment flexibility is superior to that of alternative options such as spring hinges and floor springs.

Keith Parry, Divisional Sales Manager at Alpro, said: “Transom overhead door closers are designed to be contained within the transom header bar of the door. The concealed operation lends itself to infrastructure usage of this kind where functionality is key. Alpro is already supporting the transport sector with access control installations at rail hubs such as St Pancras International and on sea ferry routes around Britain.”

Alpro transom closers have been independently tested to exceed 250,000 double-action cycles to EN1154. Standard spindle length is 12mm (extended 17 and 22mm options are available) and replacement items can be ordered for retrofit installations and maintenance.

In 2014 the Airshow saw US$204bn of orders for 1,100 aircraft announced and the successful delivery of 80 military delegations from 50 countries. There were 100,000 trade visitors over the first five days and 80,000 public visitors on the Saturday and Sunday. The Farnborough International Airshow showcases the best of the global aerospace industry. The 2016 event will be held from 11 -17 July.
