BOLLES + WILSON receive an ‘International Architecture Award 2012‘ for the design of a new headquarter for a concrete plant in Erwitte, Germany

The ‘International Architecture Award’ is annually awarded by the ‘Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design’ and the ‘European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies’ and is considered as one of the most prestigious international awards for innovative and outstanding design. The rewarded BOLLES+WILSON design of a new headquarter for a concrete plant in Erwitte (Germany) emerged from an invited competition in 2011 where it won a first prize.

The design – the optimal concrete beam. The existing vertical cement silo is complimented by a new horizontal administration deck. The deck hovers, cantilevering dramatically over green fields (entrance side) and also symmetrically out over a renaturalised cement quarry (wildlife protection zone).

The 12m cantilever is achieved with a structural optimised beam – minimal material, maximum openings for internal flexibility. In addition there is a special energy concept, which meets the requirements of a sustainably managed modern company.
