Leading supermarket Tesco continues to work closely with leading manufacturing business Woodscape as part of their ‘Build a Better Tesco’ initiative.
The North-West-based street furniture manufacturer is a strategic partner to the Tesco group, due to their extensive and in-depth knowledge regarding the use of timber, as Tesco strive to refresh their stores nationwide.
In a bid to humanise stores and make them more welcoming for shoppers, Tesco has introduced more and more wooden furniture and fixtures to create an authentic and warmer look and feel. Including an exclusively designed range of wooden seating, planters, litter bins and trolley shelters by Woodscape.
A Senior Design Manager at Tesco had this to say about Woodscape “The exceptional service, product quality and behind-the-scenes support to deliver first-time can only be described as market leading. Woodscape’s products are standout in terms of design and true, quality-craftsmanship and they have a thorough understanding of retail and the speed of change.”
It is through their strategic relationship that Woodscape has been able to advise Tesco on the numerous benefits to using timber, not just externally but for internal fixtures and cladding as well. Benefits such as the natural ambience, minimal maintenance and wide variety of styles, textures and finishes on offer, as well as the ability to procure sustainable timber from well-managed forests. The environmental advantages of using timber are multiple and contribute to a much lower carbon footprint.
Managing Director of Woodscape Richard Nelson said “We’re incredibly proud to be a strategic partner to Tesco and appreciate the recognition from such a hugely influential buying group about the quality of our timber furniture products and the expertise of our teams. This association has certainly taught us how to be a much leaner and more robust organisation.”
An extensive training programme has also been provided by Woodscape for Tesco installation engineers, as they pioneer a new approach to building for retail through the consolidation of installation work to one internal team.
Tesco has made great progress with their refresh programme, updating some 300 stores so far, and with many more to follow Woodscape expects a busy year ahead.
