MechoSystems provides effective WindowManagement® solutions

Share

MechoSystems is a world leading designer and manufacturer of manual, motorised and automated roller blind systems. The company provides contemporary WindowManagement® solutions at every scale. Products deliver intelligent control, energy savings, comfort, and enhance the interior design. It’s automated shading systems help to meet stricter regulations regarding thermal/solar load on glazed facades, and work seamlessly with intelligent lighting controls to meet regulations regarding Part L of building regulations in the UK.

The company provides WindowManagement® solutions at every scale. From a classroom to a commercial office to an entire multi-story building, MechoSystems has scalable products that go beyond meeting minimum requirements and exceed expectations. Automated SolarTrac® and SunDialer® roller blind systems predict solar position and other sky conditions to optimise the use of daylight, and managing glare at the window creating productive work environments. Numerous studies have shown that exposure to outside views are significant and boost productivity. Through the automation of roller blind positions, daylight harvesting throughout the interior space is greatly enhanced thereby reducing the need for electric lighting and contributing to sustainability goals.

The roller blinds products’ support BREEAM® and other environmental friendly/sustainability oriented schemes. MechoSystems automated systems help the internal environment (health and well-being) by placing the roller blinds in an open position as soon as direct radiation or glare conditions are no longer present thereby allowing the maximum amount of daylight into a space, or conversely lowering the blinds only when necessary to curtail the direct solar path.

Mecho1Besides energy savings, the unobtrusive action of automated blinds promotes the maintenance of the circadian rhythm in humans thereby regulating the sleep-wake cycle. Light, especially the intense light present during the day is needed to suppress Melatonin production and the human eye (retina) is the pathway to signal melatonin production or inhibition. In addition, MechoSystems has blackout roller blind schemes that include side channels, motorization, and special fascia that create the dark environment that fosters restful sleep and allows Melatonin to be produced without interruption by light.

The fabrics used on roller blinds preserve outward views while reducing uncomfortable glare and thwarting solar-heat gain. Many are endlessly recyclable and recognised by independent bodies as meeting sustainability, environmental and fire retardant standards. The motorised blind systems can be integrated into other building systems including patient controls inside HealthCare facilities. Manual systems meet the need for effective and long-lasting control of solar radiation and illumination.

Mecho2

MechoSystems has the answers to the challenges facing many architects and consultants as they develop the buildings of tomorrow and meet needs of sustainability and reducing carbon footprint. In building’s such as The Shard (London, UK) designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop or the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Centre for Brain Health (Las Vegas, NV, US) designed by Gehry Partners, LLP, the thermal load was extremely intense causing a need for dynamic solutions to be employed. The versatile SolarTrac® system, based on predictive modelling, with sensors to measure thermal radiation and brightness levels provide active management of the thermal load, whilst minimising solar radiation and glare thereby optimising the use of daylight and ensuring a comfortable environment for all.

As a blinds company, MechoSystems is proud of their record of innovation and successful project installations worldwide. Effective WindowManagement® systems paired with a lighting control strategy can reduce luminaire loads through dimming. A recent post-occupancy study of The New York Times Building (New York City, NY, US) by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, U.S., proves that automation works and that energy consumption is significantly reduced in comparison to predictive models. Besides energy savings for the client, roller blind automation enables increased and consistent daylight which benefits the building occupants by creating healthful environments, while managing glare and solar radiation resulting in productivity gains. Views are maintained, interior aesthetics are enhanced, window uniformity from the outside is attained and at night the roller blinds curtail light pollution helping meet Bird-Safe architecture objectives. Roller blinds solve challenges and bring returns that continue for the life of the building.
