Scotscape Completes Comprehensive Landscape Programme for PwC

Share

Working in partnership with designer Mathew Bell, Scotscape has completed the hard and soft landscaping work at PriceWaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC’s) head office at 1 Embankment Place, London.

With around 2,000 employees based at the firm’s prestigious offices, the overall programme of work saw five previously unused terraces being refurbished, all of which provide spectacular views over London. The design brief called for break-out areas to be created on each of the terraces, for staff hospitality, work and relaxation. With a high emphasis on the use of recycled materials and the use of fauna attracting plants, the five separate areas have enhanced the bio diversity of the area.

Scotscape PwC 2The scope of Scotscape’s work included the installation of new paving, recycled composite decking, bed construction using recycled plastic boards, as well as the erection of new living walls and all necessary planting. Commenting on the programme, Scotscape’s Managing Director Angus Cunningham said: “We were delighted to have worked on such an exciting project, our team producing high quality work, on time and within budget under some challenging working conditions. The team’s work has been extremely well received, drawing praise from everyone who has seen it”.

Scotscape PwC 1On level two of the building, Scotscape installed a stainless steel wire living wall, with climbing plants established in pots at the base. On level eight, the company installed two large galvanised and powder-coated frames to support pots filled with soil and pre-grown ivy. This helped to ‘green-up’ and screen 50 square meters of vertical wall.

On completion, the development of these five terraces along with other energy saving systems has helped PwC achieve the highest BREEAM rating yet recorded worldwide for an office building.
