Renderplas Takes Care Of Sustainability

Share

PVCu external render beads from Renderplas are part of the sustainability detailing of a new care home in Dundee for the Balhousie Care Group.

Renderplas PVCu beads are both sustainable in their manufacture, and are contributing to the effectiveness of the highly insulated structural envelope of the Clement Park Care Home, preventing thermal bridges which could be introduced when using steel beads, and which would result in heat loss and cold areas. White corner, stop and movement joint render beads from the Renderplas range have been used in the project to complement a Kilwaughter K Rend system, consisting of a polymer-modified cement-based scratch coat under a brilliant white top coat render spray-applied to a depth of 15mm.

All new Balhousie care home projects are designed with a substantial focus on sustainability and include features such as triple glazed windows, solar water heating and the use of eco-friendly building products. Renderplas PVCu beads offer a low carbon solution for such projects as they are manufactured locally from 100% recycled material, will last the lifetime of the render, and have achieved an “excellent” Ecopoint rating of just 0.004 per kg installed.

External rendering of the Clement Park Care Home was completed by the Specialist Works Division of Muirfield Contracts Ltd of Dundee. Approved applicators of all the major render systems, the Division recommends Renderplas PVCu beads as a durable, cost-effective solution for all types of rendering contract, from social housing and student residences to multi-storey office blocks. Renderplas beading is manufactured from a scratch-resistant PVCu material that does not corrode, like metal beading, if it becomes exposed. Bill Morrison, Estimator for Muirfield Contracts, says: “In addition to their longer life, Renderplas PVCu beads are really easy to work with on site and they tick all the right boxes when it comes to sustainability, which is an increasingly important consideration for today’s building specifiers and designers.”

The Clement Park Care Home specified Renderplas 15mm Corner Beads for rendered corners and reveals to ensure a straight arris and to provide protection against impact. Stop Beads from the Renderplas range in either 15mm or 10mm sizes (depending on render depth) have been used to prevent cracking around door and window surrounds, while 15mm Movement Joint Beads are installed in areas with a structural movement joint under the render.
